'The Great Eastern' Sparkling Shiraz
A rich and powerful festive wine.
- Wine Club Members Price
Deep red with a tinge of purple.
Bursting with red fruits, raspberry liquorice and dark chocolate.
An elegant palate with juicy plum, mocha oak, fine grained tannins and a persistent bead.
5 - 10 years.
After two years maturing in five-year-old French oak barriques and a further two years on tirage (yeast lees in individual bottles) this wine has developed beautiful complexity.
Amidst the thundering hooves of the world famous Oakbank Racecourse in the Adelaide Hills, David and Nick go about their business of selecting grapes for their premium wines.
Every year at the Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival, The Great Eastern Steeplechase has the punters rushing to the grandstand to watch the second longest horse race in Australia held on a public course. This has inspired the name and artwork for this festive sparkling, which we like to think pleases a crowd just as well as the annual spectacle.

"Deep red colour with a tinge of purple and a lacing of fine, persistent bubbles. The bouquet is herbal, spicy and slightly vegetal and suggests some cooler climate fruit here, probably Adelaide Hills. The wine is full and rounded, soft and fruity in the mouth with fine, supple, discreet tannins, a goodly dollop of sweetness and balanced alcohol. The flavour is deep and long. A very attractive sparkling red." - Huon Hooke
"A unique style of sparkling red with delicious tamarillo and spiced plum flavours. There is a mix of savoury and fruity flavours, ensuring the wine does not get too heavy or cloying. Lovely fine bubbles and gentle, integrated, sweetness on the finish. Highly satisfying." - Toni Patterson
