"The O'Leary Walker Seasonal Release range continues to stretch the curiosity and here we go again. This is a 50/50 blend where Gruner Veltliner meets O'Leary Walker's prized and pretty Watervale Riesling. Clean, tight and crisp, the OLW team might be onto something here. From a cool and wet year, green apple skin, tart green apple, custard apple, ruby grapefruit and cut pear stride out early. Tense, the acid is lassoed around the edge of the palate and pulls tight. And it's that tension that keeps you coming back for more. There is an unmistakable minerality and riverstone presence plus a steeliness that makes its presence known with a Mediterranean tonic feel riding all the way. Tempura prawns, fish and chips, mozzarella balls straight out of the air fryer, give me it all." - Steve Leszczynski

An interesting combination from the Clare Valley that works a treat. Brings together characters of fresh citrus and lemon pith with subtle rhubarb and crunchy quince paste. The palate is dry and taut with a long finish." - Ray Jordan

"An intriguing 50/50 blend of Clare Valley Riesling and Gruner Veltliner, which is part of the team’s seasonal releases. These are usually, as is the case here, made by Jack Walker, Nick’s son and seemingly a 754th generation winemaker (not quite but the family has some serious history). The Gruner saw 10% wild ferment in new French oak with the remainder inoculated in stainless steel. The Riesling was all inoculated in stainless steel. An appealing 11.8% alcohol, meaning that a bottle chilled over this coming summer is going to go a long way. Very pale lemon hue. There are floral notes on the nose, with citrus and stonefruit, a touch of ginger and lemongrass. Really attractive aromatics here. There is also a hint of minerals providing the backing. This is soft, focused, taut and does offer some grip. There are hints of peach to be found right on the finish, with very good length here. Enjoy now but well cellared bottles should provide pleasure for at least a few more years." - Ken Gargett

"Rare to see a 50-50 blend of Austrias Gruner Veltliner and Germanys Riesling made in Australia. In a 50-50 fight it seems riesling will beat Gruner on the nose with the typical floral riesling notes lay over the cucumber/pear Gruner. The palate is harmonious, complex, subtle and long with gentle flavour. Not the typical risling palate its more textured and the wine overall grows on you with each sip as its fruit unfolds subtle complexities giving you something to think on while you drink." - Rob Geddes

"This is a case of the old Clare Valley hand – Riesling – rubbing shoulders with an exciting newcomer – Grüner Veltliner. It’s a 50-50 partnership that they share, although close your eyes and taste and it must be said that the intensity of Clare Valley Riesling tends to shine the brighter, with Grüner bringing a lovely textural quality to the finished wine. Together, they work well. Enticing wafts of lemon, grapefruit pith, lime skin with lifted apple blossom aromatic aromas. Zesty, clean and youthful to taste. There’s plenty of zippy acidity in play here in tandem with a gentle texture. The palate is evolving with the delicacy of stewed apple and pear there but will become a little more embedded and pronounced . . . or that would be nice. There’s a lot to enjoy right now in this meeting of like-minded grape varieties." - Jeni Port
