2010 Hurtle Sparkling Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir Chardonnay

Tasting Notes

VINTAGE

2010

REGION

Adelaide Hills

GRAPE VARIETIES

Pinot Noir 60% and Chardonnay 40%

VINEYARD

O'Leary Family Vineyard is located at Oakbank, on a high, gently sloping hill with a north easterly aspect. The cool climate vineyard has characteristic even ripening influences and soils which are gravelly and well drained, providing the ideal terroir for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

VINIFICATION

The cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay base wines were given 100% malolactic fermentation to add complexity and creaminess to the mid palate, and were matured and stored at O'Leary Walker Wines for 18 months on yeast lees. Pinot Noir for a sparkling base needs to be picked on flavour and acid balance. In 2010 this occurred later in the season, resulting in more mature fruit characters and a richer coloured wine.
